Vintage Old Blackfoot elk hide bag-Ex Ted Byers Collection. This is old and made from small panels of elk hide sewn together with an interior of very old style fabric. I’m comfortable saying this is pre 1900 but cannot guarantee this. The green provenance tag show In Ted’s book that this is a ‘Blackfoot elk bag’ and the fact this has a green tag means it’s from Byer’s earliest collection. The elk hair is amazingly soft and supple-I believe it comes from the short and soft belly hair of the elk. Amazing piece.

Ted Byers was one of the largest collectors of authentic Native American artifacts and Indian Wars items/ relics in the State of Montana. He metal detected and picked his way across Montana in the early 1900’s, also acquiring previous historic collections along the way. He was known by all of the serious collectors and passed away in 2017. I have sold numerous items from his estate and the process continues.
