    Description

    You are bidding on a
SPECIALLY MERITORIOUS MEDAL RIBBON BAR 1898, in new, unissued condition.  Yes, that really is the correct name for the award.  I believe this is original ribbon on new old stock hardware--ribbon material is considerably heavier than modern ribbon stock.
It represents the medal that was authorized by Congress on March 3, 1901 and was conferred on officers and men of the US Navy and US Marine Corps for specially meritorious service other than in battle during the Spanish American War.  Only known to have been awarded 93 times, making it one of America's rarest awards.
    Single and multiple mounts
    (required for wear or display)
    are available in my store
    --be sure to purchase a ribbon mount if you need one;
you cannot wear this ribbon without one
    .
I can assemble an entire ribbon rack, and can get virtually any currently issued US military insignia or award and many historical items, but space is limited in my store.  Please feel free to contact me with your needs.
Will gladly combine shipping for multiple lots
if you place items in your cart and request total
.  Thanks a million for looking and check out my
    other items
    !
*I apologize for the ridiculous shipping, but I have no choice but to ship
    First Class Package
    ,
as when I attempted to ship first class non-machinable, the USPS frequently saw fit to run the envelope through the sorting machine anyway, destroying it, and of course I would be blamed.  Done with that.  You can, however, fit MANY items (the ribbon mount, other ribbons, insignia) in a First Class Package, so if you need anything else, it's like free shipping.
**The good old USPS seems to lose about three of my shipments every year.  Astonishingly, I have had several ex-buyers take this risk and then expect me to act as though they had paid for an insured shipping method.  My life doesn't work like that.  If I want a service, I have to request it and PAY FOR IT.  So if you don't want to be one of the unlucky three, please select the Priority Mail (insured) choice, otherwise you may request the less expensive First Class, and take the risk that the USPS may lose it.
